Getting Started with Your Prescription

When will my prescription be approved and delivered?

After you submit your assessment, our medical team reviews it within 1-2 business days. Once approved, your prescription goes directly to our pharmacy network. The complete process can take up to 7 business days from submission to delivery. We appreciate your patience and please remember to factor in business days - our teams and pharmacy partners take well-deserved weekends off!

What's the shipping timeline?

You can now track your order in our new Patient Portal in the upper left corner by clicking on the button: "Track Order". Here is an overview of the process:

How does tracking and shipping work?

Once the pharmacy processes your order, they create a shipping label, and you'll receive an email directly from UPS with your tracking information. The pharmacy ships orders Monday through Thursday to avoid weekend delays with packages sitting in transit. From the time your prescription reaches the pharmacy, they require up to 5 business days to process and ship your order. Most patients receive their medication within 5-7 days of prescription approval. Please remember to take into account Business Days when considering the timeline!

What should I do if my vials arrive warm?

Temperature control is important for medication stability. If your vials arrive warm or you have any concerns about the shipping conditions, contact the pharmacy immediately. They can assess whether the medication's integrity has been compromised and arrange for a replacement if necessary. The medications are shipped with appropriate packaging, but extreme weather conditions can sometimes affect delivery.

Multi-Dose Vial Safety (What is the 28-day puncture rule?)

While manufacturers typically test multi-dose vials for sterility up to 28 days, pharmacies can extend this timeframe based on their own rigorous safety testing for specific medications. When you receive a multi-month supply in one vial, the pharmacy has verified it remains safe and effective for the entire treatment period.

Our Pharmacy Network

When receiving your GLP-1 medications through our service, we want you to feel confident in the quality, safety, and handling of every vial. Below is an overview of where your medications come from, how they’re processed, and the standards each pharmacy follows.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is produced by BPI Labs, an FDA-registered 503B compounding pharmacy. From there, it is shipped through The Pharmacy Hub. The current Beyond Use Date (BUD) for tirzepatide is 9 months or longer.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide is produced by VitalRx, a trusted 503B compounding pharmacy, and is also shipped through The Pharmacy Hub. The current BUD for semaglutide is approximately 6 months.

Expiration / BUD Labeling

Every vial that ships includes a clearly labeled expiration/Beyond Use Date (BUD) so you always know how long your medication remains stable.

503B Source Facilities

Both VitalRx and BPI Labs operate as FDA-regulated 503B outsourcing facilities. They follow cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) and USP 797 standards designed for the highest quality in sterile medication production.

The Pharmacy Hub

The Pharmacy Hub is licensed in all 50 states and functions as a 503A pharmacy. It adheres to USP 795 (non-sterile compounding) and USP 800 (hazardous drug handling) standards to ensure safe dispensing and shipment practices.

Understanding Your Medication and Dosing

What are the specific dosing schedules for the treatment programs?

Our medication programs follow a careful titration schedule designed to minimize side effects while maximizing effectiveness. Here's how each program progresses:‍

What do concentration changes mean for my medication?

Understanding concentration is crucial for proper dosing. Every injectable medication has a specific concentration, expressed as milligrams per milliliter (mg/mL). To help you find your dose in mg or units, please see this helpful Dosage Calculator.

When the pharmacy changes the concentration of your medication, the volume you inject may change, but your actual dose in milligrams remains the same. Always focus on the milligram dose rather than the volume - this is what determines the medication's effect on your body.

How long can I stay on this medication?

GLP-1 medications can be used both for active weight loss and long-term weight maintenance. Many patients use these medications for several months to a year during their active weight loss phase, then transition to a maintenance dose. Some individuals continue on a lower maintenance dose indefinitely to help maintain their results. The appropriate duration varies by individual and should be discussed with your healthcare provider based on your specific goals and health needs.

Managing Side Effects and Results

What should I do about side effects, and can I increase my dose if I have them?

Side effects are common when starting medications and usually improve as your body adjusts. If you're experiencing side effects, do not increase your dose - this will likely make them worse. Instead, discuss your symptoms with your nurse or schedule an appointment with your provider. They may recommend staying at your current dose longer or even temporarily decreasing it. Only increase your dose every 4 weeks if you're tolerating the medication well without significant side effects.

How can I reduce nausea?

Nausea is one of the most common side effects, but several strategies can help minimize it:

  • Take your injection about an hour after eating a high-protein, healthy meal

  • Stay well-hydrated throughout the day

  • Consider adding electrolyte drinks

  • Avoid trigger foods: fast food, fatty meals, and sugary items

  • If nausea persists, lower your dose temporarily

What can I do about constipation?

Constipation can occur as these medications slow down your digestive system. To manage this:

  • Ensure you're getting at least 25 grams of fiber daily

  • Eat high-fiber foods like vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

  • Stay well-hydrated

  • Consider an over-the-counter stool softener if needed

  • Stay at a lower dose for extended periods if necessary

Why am I not seeing changes in the first month?

Initial results vary significantly between individuals, and it's completely normal not to see dramatic changes in the first month. GLP-1 medications require a gradual titration period to allow your body to adjust and minimize side effects. The first 4-6 weeks often feel slow because you're on the lowest doses, which are primarily for building tolerance. The medication is accumulating in your system during this time. Most patients begin seeing more consistent results once they reach the middle doses of their titration schedule. Remember, rapid dose increases are associated with more severe side effects, so patience during this initial phase is important for long-term success.

Refills and Continuing Treatment

How do I get refills, and what are my options?

Your refills will ship automatically based on the plan type you have. For example, if you are on a monthly plan, you will expect to receive a new shipment every 25-30 days. If you are on a quarterly plan, it will be about 90 days until your next shipment.

What if I'm refilling at a higher dose than I'm currently taking?

Our website offers you the option to stay at your current dose or increase if you would like.

How do I properly taper off when I reach my goal weight?

Tapering off GLP-1 medications requires a strategic approach to maintain your results:

  1. Continue at your effective dose for at least one month after reaching goal weight

  2. Begin tapering by either:

    • Reducing injection amount by 5-10 units every 1-2 weeks, OR

    • Extending time between injections from weekly to every 2-3 weeks

  3. Monitor your weight and appetite throughout the tapering process

  4. Adjust the tapering speed based on your body's response

Special Dosing Strategies

How does microdosing work?

Microdosing is a maintenance strategy used after achieving your weight loss goals. It involves using a lower dose than what was required for active weight loss - typically enough to maintain appetite control without continued weight reduction. The specific microdose varies by individual based on:

  • Metabolism

  • Lifestyle factors

  • Duration at goal weight

  • Individual response to medication

Some patients find success with doses 50-75% lower than their weight loss dose, while others need doses closer to their original therapeutic level. Work with your provider to find your optimal maintenance dose through gradual experimentation.
