Microdosing means taking a lower-than-standard dose of a GLP-1 â usually because your goal is something other than active weight loss.
It is an informal term, not a medical definition. Your plan includes a personalized dosing plan from a licensed provider.
What counts as a microdose
A standard starting dose of tirzepatide is 2 mg or 5 mg, depending on the provider. A microdose is any dose below what is normally used to drive weight loss.
Two ways people use it
Start low and build slowly. Begin at a very low dose, see how you respond, and titrate up gradually toward a standard dose.
Stay low over time. Remain at a low dose because active weight loss is not the goal.
What to expect for weight loss
Many do not see sustained weight loss at these doses â 2 mg in particular is often not enough to drive lasting weight loss on its own.
If active weight loss is your main goal, a standard dosing plan is usually the better fit. Weight loss is not promised, and results vary.
Who it can fit
Patients new to GLP-1s who want to start at a lower dose
Patients who prefer to stay at a lower dose rather than push for maximum weight loss
Only a licensed provider decides whether microdosing is a fit for you, and what your dose should be.
Already reached your goal weight?
Keeping weight off after you reach your goal is a little different from microdosing. Instead of choosing a low dose up front, you and your provider lower your dose gradually over time to hold your results (sometimes called a maintenance plan). If that is where you are, message us and we will get you to the right plan with your provider.
Questions about whether it is right for you
Whether microdosing suits your situation, and what dose you would be on, are decisions for your provider. Message us and we will get your question to the right person.
