Keep glutathione refrigerated between 36°F and 46°F whenever it is not in use, away from the freezer and out of direct light. Never freeze it.
Freezing can degrade the medication and make it ineffective.
Before each injection
Take the vial out and let it come to room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes. Injecting cold solution can make the site more uncomfortable.
Inspect the vial every time. The solution should be clear to slightly yellow and free of particles or cloudiness. If anything looks off, contact us before using it.
Once opened
Follow the expiration guidance on your pharmacy label. Write the date you opened the vial on the label so you can track it easily.
If your vial shipped from Olympia, it has a small metal center cap that must be removed before your first dose. See "How to remove the metal center cap on your Olympia vial".
Where to inject and how to rotate
Rotate between your abdomen, outer thigh and the back of your upper arm, using a different site with each dose. Rotating prevents localized irritation, scar tissue buildup and lipodystrophy, which are changes in fat tissue that can develop from repeated injections in one spot.
A simple rotation: abdomen on Monday, thigh on Wednesday, upper arm on Friday. Alternate sides each week, left abdomen one week, right the next. This gives each area time to recover. Stay at least two inches from your navel when using the abdomen.
Technique
Clean the site with an alcohol swab and let it dry completely. Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle, pull back slightly on the plunger to check for blood. If you see any, withdraw and choose a new spot. Then inject slowly. Apply light pressure afterwards with a clean swab. Do not rub.
What is normal
Mild redness or minor tenderness afterwards is normal and usually settles within a day or two. If you notice significant swelling, prolonged pain, warmth or any sign of infection, contact your provider.
