Understanding Your Vial’s Total Milligram (mg) Amount

How to Calculate the Total

Updated this week

To find the total amount of medication (mg) in your vial:

  1. Check the concentration on the label.
Example: 10 mg/mL means there are 10 milligrams (mg) in every 1 milliliter (mL) of medication.

  2. Look at the total volume of the vial.
    For example:

    • If your vial contains 3 mL, then you have 30 mg total (10 mg × 3 = 30 mg).

    • If your vial contains 2 mL, then you have 20 mg total (10 mg × 2 = 20 mg).
